Jan Tore Jensen was born in Bodø, Norway in 1969.

He graduated from Umeå Academy of Fine Art (MFA) in 2009 and from Edinburgh College of Art in 2001 (BA(hons) in Photography), and works primarily with analogue photography.

In his works Jensen investigates questions regarding the place and meaning of the concept of Beauty in contemporary photography, while concurrently exploring ideas of the Other and Queer Theory.
Abandonment, isolation, memory and perception, sexual politics, consumerism and the everyday are recurring themes in Jensen's works.
Jan Tore Jensen has exhibited his work in Brussels, Edinburgh, London, China, Norway and Sweden.

In 2000 he was awarded the Kodak Student Merit Award (UK).
